Gold and gemstone sourcing
Share
In the interest of transparency, here is a compiled list of the companies and their bullion and data safety sheets for materials used in my workshop.
All gold materials used for body jewellery are of a 14ct or 18ct alloy with the exception of some West Austrialian raw gold nuggets that can be used in place of gemstones. These nuggets are responsibly sourced by traditional methods from an area just outside of Perth. The average carat for west Australian nuggets is 23ct and they can be HD-XRF tested upon request.
GOLD ALLOY MATERIALS
*the use of carat vs karat in this disclosure has been intentional to line up with the more commonly recognised choice in the country of alloy (UK vs USA)
In compliance with REACH these materials are nickel and cadmium free.
In compliance with the UK and European regulations, all items containing a gold weight of 1 gram or over will be sent for hallmarking with the Edinburgh Assay office.
For all items containing less than 1 gram of gold, additional HD-XRF testing can be arranged upon request.

PRECIOUS GEMS
Although I endeavour to do as much research as possible into the origin of the gemstones i use, unfortunately the gem trade is often missing gaps in its traceability or at some point along the line their will be ethically or environmentally questionable aspects.
So although i still ask for origin and try to research as best as i can, i cannot guarantee completely ethically sound gemstones are solely used.
Instead I tend to focus on finding small independant lapidary companies to by directly from.
For the raw stones I use as is or have cut in house, I buy from conflict free zones as much as possible and try to stick to gems that are more commonly found in smaller mines that are often community or family owned
I feel that although i cannot guarantee each stone has been sourced completed ethically from the ground to finished piece, i can do the leg work that is within my means while also supporting small communities and family businesses.
Currently the majority of my stones are sourced from
